I went in about a month ago because my car was leaking coolant very quickly. they said that nothing was wrong with it. last night i had one of my coworkers who was a mechanic take a look at it as i was still having issues. turns out i have a blown head gasket when i was told my vehicle was, “one of the best maintained camry’s” they’ve seen. it’s incredibly infuriating that they would take advantage of a broke teenage girl that knows nothing about cars. thanks lol.
Ms. Dennis, You brought your vehicle to us with a concern of coolant loss. Upon inspection, the coolant level was found to be slightly low, and we topped off the level. We proceeded to perform a cooling system pressure test and left the system pressurized for 45 minutes, while inspecting for active leaks. No active leaks were present, but we did see signs of dried coolant in the thermostat housing area, where coolant had been seeping in the past. We ran the engine to operating temperature and road tested the vehicle. The cooling system maintained proper temperature and did not exhibit any other symptoms. The only possible issue we saw at that visit was the signs of previous leakage from the engine thermostat housing. We recommended replacing the thermostat housing and monitor from there. You decided to take the vehicle as is, and would monitor for coolant loss. I know having vehicle problems can be very frustrating, and it’s equally frustrating for us when problems won’t present themselves during testing. There are many times when symptoms are intermittent or only present themselves under certain specific conditions. The last thing we want to do is recommend a repair that we can’t verify is a problem.
